Periodontitis

What is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis is the more advanced stage of Gingivitis or gum disease. It’s a chronic dental infection in the gums that can deteriorate supporting foundations and structure around the tooth (i.e. bone). It is caused by certain bacteria that have been chronic within the mouth. The body’s immune system is perpetually in “fight mode” once these certain bacteria are present.

People with underlying medical conditions can be at more risk of having periodontitis.
